About police calls for service
Summary
Each day, hundreds of San Jose residents call the police requesting services. In this section of EveryBlock, we publish information about recent service calls, so you can find out about possible criminal activity in your neighborhood.
The data, which comes from the San Jose Police Department, includes the report's location and date, the type of crime or incident that was reported (suspicious vehicle, vandalism, burglary, etc.) and an event number, which is an identification code unique to each report.
Also included is the report's disposition, which explains what happened as a result of the report. This usually refers to what responding officers found or did at the scene, e.g., an arrest was made, a traffic citation was issued or the person making the report was gone when officers responded.
Note that calls for calls for service don't always result in a criminal incident and that the police department's call information isn't the same as reported crime data. And sometimes, more than one person reports the same incident.
Finally, note that the date of the call reflects when the call was entered into the police department’s computer system, not when the call was received.
