Homeowner

Walmart in Almaden Valley

Does anyone know when the new Walmart on Almaden Expw is opening its doors to customers?

  • On the same day that all of the small local businesses are doomed. Wow, what a coincidence. But honestly, I heard April.

  • Maybe there will be less traffic at the other Walmart at Monterey and Blossom Hill after the new one opens. That one gives me the "I am willing to gouge my eyes out to escape this place" feeling.

Old Diner in south Almaden?

A long time ago when I would take drives around Almaden Rd and McKean road in southern Almaden Valley, I used to see this little diner on the side of the road. Not Feed and Fuel. Way further away from the expressway. Probably long gone. Looked like a little cottage as I recall. Anyone know about it or if it is still there?

  • We live past Feed and Fuel on Almaden Rd, and there used to be a small diner called Quicksilver Kitchen, with Sandy and Connie, past Feed and Fuel on the way to Le Foret in New Almaden. That property was sold years ago and now has a housing track in there. It was our favorite breakfast place and we still miss it. This might be the diner you remember.

  • That must have been it. Pity it is gone. I would have loved to eat there. So out of the way and homespun. Thank you for replying!

I sent your question to a friend who has lived in Almaden forever. His reply: Carolyn and I remember that place as the Country Kitchen. It was one of our favorite places for Sunday breakfast and we always knew other people there. The waitresses were something else once they got to know you. We used to see an old cowboy we knew from years past named Berl Norton who always sat at the counter. The place even had a hitching post outside for those who showed up on horseback. We really miss it.

He called it Country Kitchen, Barbhanly called it Quicksilver Kitchen. Probably the same place.

"Has anyone heard what's behind the removal of the mailbox at Camden & Coleman Rd.? It has been there for many a year and was very convienent for dropping off that last minute letter. Also, why wouldn't they let us know in advance? I'm not even sure where the next closest mailbox is..."
